Tufts Tamasha
@tuftstamasha
Tufts Tamasha is Tufts’ Bollywood-fusion dance team, blending Indian styles such as Bhangra, Kathak, and Bollywood with Western styles like hip-hop, contemporary, and more. Founded in 2008, Tamasha was created to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the South Asian diaspora through movement, music, and storytelling.
Tamasha performs at college showcases (Harvard, MIT, Columbia, Northeastern), and cultural events across the country. We also perform on campus at Culture Show hosted by the South Asian Association at Tufts.

Tufts Rangeela
@tuftsrangeela
My two best friends and I started this dance group because of our love for dance and the lack of a non-competitive, low-commitment dance group at Tufts. Many of our friends enjoy dancing but have packed schedules or have been unable to join audition-based dance groups on campus. To create a more inclusive space, we launched an open dance class with weekly sessions, introducing a new choreography each month to keep things fresh and exciting. Our main mission is to foster a welcoming environment for anyone who loves to dance or wants to learn—no auditions, no commitments, just pure fun! Recently, we’ve blended Indian songs with other cultural influences, such as Latin remixes, K-pop collaborations, and Indian hip-hop fusion, which we showcased at Tufts’ Culture Show this year.
This has helped us engage individuals from diverse backgrounds in learning Indian dance. Moving forward, we aim to incorporate other Indian languages into our choreography, particularly Southern Indian songs and working on attracting more male dancers to break stereotypes and promote the idea that dance is for everyone.

JumboRaas
@tuftsjumboraas
Tufts JumboRaas is the premier Garba/Raas team at Tufts University. Garba/Raas is a folk dance originating from the state of Gujarat in eastern India, and it is usually performed socially during the festival of Navratri. Founded in 2002, we participate in Garba/Raas competitions and performances across the country, while also spreading the Garba/Raas dance to the Tufts community.
Tufts JumboRaas performs at on-campus showcases such as culture show, Sarabande, SOC Spirit of the Creative (SOC), COCOA, and Harlem Grooves. We also perform off-campus at various universities including Harvard, Bentley, Yale, and Brandeis. We have competed at Gateway to Raas, an affiliate competition to the Raas All Stars circuit.
